Gluten is evident in almost everything these days. Breakfast cereals, salad dressings, bread even our make-up ladies!! The main reason why we suggest leaving gluten out of our kitchens and our diets at Real Fitness Training is endless. The negative effect it has on our bodies is not worth the havoc it can reap on our intestinal track.
Gluten is sadly not what it used to be forty years ago hence why our grandparents or parents have never heard of gluten intolerance or gluten sensitivity. They believe it is a “new age” disease that we have made up. Well they are 50% correct it is a “new age” problem however there is a lot of research behind it all that has proven it is not made up, gluten insensitive and intolerances is 100% real and even worse for those who are not either or, it will still leave a path of destruction in your gut and intestinal walls.
So what are the difference between now and forty years ago? Well I am so glad you asked. 40 years ago gluten was or products made with gluten were made from a grain called “Einkorn” pronounced iron-corn. Einkorn means single grain, it was the first wheat crop ever grown and harvested successful in the Middle East and it was this single grain that made up their bread, baked goods and anything else containing wheat or gluten. It was not genetically modified like wheat is now and it was not tampered with in any shape or form and neither were the products it went into. It was all very simple and pure. Move forward 40-50 years and oh my how things have changed. No longer do we use the grain Einkorn in its simplest form and we now have additives, preservatives and even chemicals that are added into our foods to make them “taste” better. Forty years ago these ingredients did not exist.
Some signs of gluten intolerance or sensitivity:
It’s sad to see that within that time frame our food has seriously deteriorated and has had a huge effect on the general population and our health. Bread is not bread anymore and gluten is 10 times more modified than it was forty years ago. When gluten is digested it goes down into the gut and this is where the problems start. It weakens the gut lining by forming tiny, little holes in it which in turn causes “leaky gut” which than doesn’t hold or retain any micronutrients from the good foods we do consume. It will simply leaks them out and turn them into waste almost immediately giving your body no time to absorb those nutrients. This than will flow down into the intestinal track and do them same process it has already done in the gut. This is all from an overload in gluten, whether you are gluten sensitive or intolerant it does not matter. Gluten will still do these things to your body regardless. Cutting it down and then out of your diet will only help with a multiple of things such as better absorption of nutrients, healthier gut, better results whether you are training in the gym or eating healthier and better quality of life.
Give it a go next time you are doing the groceries or about to make dinner. Try no gluten for one meal and notice how good you feel afterwards. Become in tune with your gut health and reap the rewards.
